Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 is on Monday, September 14, and celebrations run for ten days, ending with Anant Chaturdashi on September 25. Bhavnagar’s Ganeshotsav has grown a lot in the last few years, with pandals now competing on scale and decoration the way Navratri garba venues do. Here are 6 worth making time for.
Best Ganesh Pandals to Visit in Bhavnagar This Year
1. Bhavnagar Ka Raja, Jawahar Ground
The festival here starts before Chaturthi itself. A Ganpati Agman Yatra runs from Hillpark Chowkadi to Jawahar Maidan on September 12, followed by a bigger shobha yatra from Tapasvi Bapu’s place to Jawahar Maidan on September 14. Between September 14 and 24, the ground hosts cultural programs, a drawing competition, singing, talent shows, and a Creators Award show honoring Gujarat’s content creators. Go in the morning or early afternoon for an easier darshan, evenings once the cultural programs start are when the crowd builds. It’s the most complete festival experience in the city, not just a darshan stop.

2. Bhavnagar Ka Maharaja, Ghogha Circle
One of the more established pandals in the city, going on close to two decades now. The idol work is detailed, a heavy crown and ornamentation, and the pandal is lit up with string lighting through the ten days. Daytime works well for a calm visit, the evening program is when it fills up.

3. Waghawadi Cha Raja, Waghawadi Road
This year’s idol is a replica of the well-known Dagdusheth Ganpati. There’s a daily Akhand Bharat Sankalp Maha Aarti at 7:45 PM, along with cultural programs and modak prasad distribution every evening from September 14 to 25. Evening is the time to go here, the aarti is the main draw.

4. Shree Mahakali Mitra Mandal Trust, Meghani Circle
Leans traditional, proper Vedic rituals instead of a DJ setup, usually paired with prasad distribution to a large gathering. Mornings give you an easier darshan, the evening Maha Aarti is when the bigger crowd shows up.

5. Hill Park Ka Raja, Hill Drive
Known for using a pure soil idol rather than Plaster of Paris, one of the more visibly eco-conscious pandals on this list. The Hill Drive setting also means a bit more space and a calmer pace compared to the busier commercial-road pandals. Daytime is the easier time to go, evenings bring the aarti and community activity.

6. Sarita Ka Raja
One of the longest-running pandals in the city, in its 23rd year now. The idol work is elaborate, a heavy silver-toned crown and ornamentation, and the setup draws a loyal local crowd rather than the bigger, more commercial pandals elsewhere in the city. Daytime visits are easier, evenings pick up once local activity starts.

Eco-Friendly Ganpati Idols in Bhavnagar This Year
More mandals and households are moving away from Plaster of Paris idols toward soil-based ones, since PoP doesn’t dissolve properly and ends up polluting whatever it’s immersed in. Hill Park Ka Raja is a good example of this shift already in practice. Some local groups also sell clay idols embedded with seeds, the kind that can be dissolved in a home pot and left to grow into a plant afterward. If you’re bringing an idol home, clay with natural colors is the easier option to immerse without worrying about where it’s allowed to go.
Where to Immerse Your Ganpati Idol in Bhavnagar (Visarjan Guide)
Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation has banned idol immersion in all lakes and water bodies across the city for the festival period, September 14 to 25, 2026. This includes Bor Talav (Gaurishankar Talav) along with the rest of the city’s lakes, meant to protect the water and keep the immersion process safe.
The BMC has set up 3 artificial ponds for citizens to use:
- Bor Talav, Kailas Vatika
- Near Akhlol Mahadevji Temple, below Akhlol bridge
- Before Purna Talav, opposite Raj Shakti Residency, on the road from the airport toward Nava Bandar
These are the only approved immersion points this year, and BMC has asked citizens to stick to them rather than the lakes.
Best Time to Visit the Pandals
Mornings and early afternoon give you an easier, less crowded darshan across all the pandals. Evenings from around 7:30 PM onward are when most of the aartis and cultural programs run, so that’s when things get busiest, especially on weekends and closer to visarjan day.
