The Bhavnagar Medicity Project is a large, integrated healthcare campus being built near Nari village (Nari Chokdi) on the outskirts of Bhavnagar city. The project is being developed by the Gujarat government at a total cost of ₹587 crore.
Once complete, it will bring together a modern multi-specialty hospital, a medical college, student hostels, and residential quarters for doctors — all within a single, connected campus.
The project was launched following a foundation-laying ceremony during a Prime Minister’s visit to Bhavnagar, underlining its importance at the national level.
Why Is This Project Needed?
Currently, Sir T. Hospital — Bhavnagar’s main government hospital — operates across multiple scattered buildings. Patients have to walk from one block to another for different departments, which is especially difficult for those travelling from outside the city.

1. A 1,300-Bed Super Hospital

- 976 general beds
- 316 ICU beds
- 30 modular major operation theatres
- 10 minor operation theatres
This makes it one of the largest government hospitals in the Saurashtra region.
2. Wide Range of Medical Departments
The hospital will cover almost every major medical specialty, including:
- Medicine, Tuberculosis (TB), and Infectious Diseases

3. Dedicated Mother and Child Health Wing
A separate eight-storey Mother and Child Health (MCH) building is planned specifically for Gynaecology and Paediatrics. This shows a special focus on maternal and child healthcare — a critical need in the region.
Four-Phase Development Plan
The Bhavnagar Medicity Project is being built in four phases, with the full project expected to be completed by December 2028.
Phase 1 – Student Hostels (Nearly Complete)
The first phase includes the construction of two 11-storey hostel buildings — one for boys and one for girls — each with a capacity of 1,000 students. This phase is almost complete, giving medical students a modern place to live.
Phase 2 – Academic Block and PG Hostel
The second phase covers the academic block for the medical college along with the postgraduate hostel. This will support both teaching and research activities.
Phase 3 – Main Hospital Building

Phase 4 – Doctors’ Residences

Medical College as Part of the Bhavnagar Medicity

- 250 undergraduate (MBBS) seats
- 50 postgraduate (MD/MS) seats

Existing Sir T. Hospital Will Continue
